Modern Environmnetal studies is a new educational program on trainong the PhD students in the framework of the direction "Earth sciences". According to the Russian state classification of the scientific directions this is a program of preparation of PhD in Ecology.

We develop the program in cooperation with Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuania.

Vytautas Magnus University (https://www.vdu.lt/en/) is one of the leading universities of Lithuania. The university was founded in 1922 as an alternate national university.

Was known as the University of Lithuania; 1930 was renamed to Vytautas Magnus University, commemorating 500 years of death of Vytautas the Great, the Lithuanian ruler.Currently the VMU is one of the leading universities of Lithuania, has now about 8,800 students, including Master and Ph.D. candidates. There are a about 1000 employees, including approximately 90 professors. In the QS Ranking holds positions: Graduate Employability Ranking - #301-500; EECA University Ranking #74.


The course covers the main directions of the modern environmental toxicology and its application to the environmental study and protection issues.

Instruments of the environmental management


The course is devoted to the modern approaches to the environmental impact assessment - one of the research-based practic activities for environmental protection. The course presents:

  • Introduction to the Environmental Impact assessment,
  • Legislative framework of EIA,
  • Methods of EIA.

Elective course in the PhD training program "Modern environmental studies". The course provides insight of SEA that is one of the modern tools of environmental support of projects used at the earliest stage of the project cycle to identify all possible consequences for the territory and compliance of the project with the strategic goals of the territory.
