The aim of the course: to form a conception of the human thought achievements in different periods of history, the role and place of science in the human society development, to equip students with the skills of analyzing the main worldview and methodological problems arising in science at the present stage of its development and to form an idea of the trends in the historical development of science. Special attention in the course is given to the problems of linguistics methodology.

The course objective: to achieve the goal, this course is supposed to solve the following problems

  • provide students with the conception of science phenomenon as a special form of human activities;

  • in the course of mastering the historical and philosophical section to acquaint students with the process of changing the types of learning in the history of mankind, caused by the specifics of civilization and culture;

  • to form a conception of the interrelationship of scientific problems solved within the framework of various fields and approaches;

  • to form a broad background knowledge in the field of science achievements;

  • to give students a clear idea of the periodization of science;

  •  provide students with terminological apparatus of various branches of science;

  • to acquaint students with the scientific research methods and methodology.


Aims and objectives of the module

The aim of the course: to form a conception of the current problems of higher education, teaching methods and tools of the organization of educational process among undergraduates.

Course Objective: to achieve the goal, this course is supposed to solve the following problems:

·         provide undergraduates with terminological apparatus of Pedagogy and Psychology

·         describe the features of professional work of the teacher

·         acquaint undergraduates with the basic forms of the organization of study at the university

·         point out the theoretical and methodological features of the lectures and seminars

·         prepare undergraduates for teaching practice, and for independently developing methodological documents for conducting lessons


The purpose of the discipline is to systematize the existing students' knowledge  in the science of language, to familiarize the students with the basic stages of development of national and foreign linguistics from the earliest times to the present day, to cover the achievements and key differences in the main schools of linguistics.

 

Objectives of the course:

to achieve goal it is supposed to solve the following problems:

• to trace the evolution of the scientific knowledge, the development of the main problems of language teaching in the linguistic concepts of the past and present,

• to teach to interpret the meaning of a linguistic schools of thought in light of the theories of the past, as well as from the point of view of modern scientific knowledge,

• to familiarize with the works of the leading representatives of different linguistic schools of thought,

• to provide information on issues of general linguistics (philosophical, psychological, social, cultural, semiotic, pragmatic, cognitive issues, problems of study of units and  linguistic structure levels) - in relation to the scientific linguistic schools.

 

2. Place of the discipline in the structure of OP VO:

 

The discipline that ia entitled "General Linguistics and History of Linguistic Studies" refers to the base of the unit 1 of the curriculum.

Table 1 shows the number of previous and following disciplines aimed at creating the discipline competencies in accordance with the matrix of competencies OP VO.


The aim of the course:

In the sphere of professional practice:

-processing of Russian and foreign texts for practical purposes;

-expert linguistic analysis of the oral speech and written texts in any language for practical purposes;

-developing of means for informational support of the linguistic fields of knowledge.

In the sphere of research and procedure development:

  • development of education material by using modern information resources and technology;

  • preparation of database, word list, dictionaries and methodological recommendations in the professional oriented spheres of translation;

  • development, implementation and maintenance of language support of electronic information systems and electronic language resources for different purposes.

In the sphere of research activities:

-approbation of software products of linguistic profile;

-systematic and structural research of world languages on the basis of informational and communicative technology;

-development of the methods of analysis, processing, modeling, formalization and algorithmization of text arrays;

- development of technology for expert linguistic analysis of oral and written speech.

In the sphere of organizational and management activities:

-organization of information-retrieval activity aimed at the advancing of professionsl skills;

-process organization of formalization of language material in accordance with goals set.

The goal of the course: to raise awareness among students about actual problems of cross-cultural business communication and develop practical communication skills in the professional area of multicultural society

The task of the course: to achieve the goal during this course is expected to complete the following tasks:

- mastering information about the essence of business and scientific communication, their main notions, norms and principles;

- Formation of knowledge concerning practical implementation of norms and values of business communication in business relations;

- training the ability to deal with business situations arising during business communication;

- teaching the norms of moral relations between co-workers, employees and clients during the business communication;

- conceptualization of ethics in official conduct and actions;

- understanding of business etiquette requirements in various situations in business communication;

- formation of knowledge about the specifics of business communication and the principles of its implementation in learning and teaching.


The goals of the discipline:

To formulate an idea about foreign language as the language of professional communication and it teaching method in nonlinguistic university, to introduce a conceptual base and vocabulary practical activities in the sphere of professional communication, that allows further implementation of system of language training of future specialists in the system of higher education to create professional and intercultural communication in international activity.

  • to master the strategy of translation (the right approach to process-organizing)

  • to study parallel action in two languages


The goal of the subject is to widen students’ language competence for them to master the methodology and technics of interpretation in professional field.

The next objectives is supposed to be worked out to implement the stated goal

  • to perfect the language competence itself

  • to widen the cross-cultural competence

  • to realize the interpretation as an act of cross-cultural communication

  • to master techniques and methods of interpretation in practice;

  • to master the strategy of interpretation (the right approach to process-organizing)

  • to study parallel action in two languages


The goal of the course:

 

To familiarize the master's students with the possibilities of using new information and communication technologies in the process of specialized translation and in the design of the text of the specialised translation.

 

The objectives of the course:

 

  • To give the master's students a general theoretical understanding of the possibilities of information and communication technologies in the specialised translation;
  • To familiarize the master's students with the principles of work organization and practices of using translation software TM (TranslationMemory);
  • To teach the master's students how to create their own personalized databases, maintain them and use in practical activity of a translator.

The aim of the course: to familiarize students with the peculiarities of the media language functioning; to characterize the norms of the literary language in specific channels of communication – press language, film language, radio and TV language, advertising language, language of computer media; to show the most appropriate use of variants and invariants and to teach the skills of their relevant use; to help to improve speech culture skills; to familiarize with actual and debatable questions of the modern literary language theory of norm and problems of their implementation in language of the media.

The objectives of the course: to achieve the goal, this course is supposed to solve the following problems:

- to demonstrate the role of the media in language processes;

- to acquaint postgraduates with four levels of norms (spelling, pronunciation and stress, grammar) and their various types (phonetic, lexical, morphological, syntactic, punctuation, stylistic norm);

- to determine the areas of the norm usage in the media of different functional and stylistic status;

1.     Purpose and objectives of the discipline

The main purpose of the program is to form an idea of a foreign language as the language of professional communication and teaching methodology of it in non-language universities; to lay the basis for conceptual framework and terminology base of practice in professional communication, which will improve the structure of language training of future specialists in the universities to implement cross-cultural, professional communication, to international activities.; to introduce the format of the international foreign language exams.

Course objectives:

·        to form students' professional foreign language communicative competence;

·        provide broad background knowledge as a basis for further successful professional carrier  through the self-development in the socio-cultural sphere;

·        provide students nomenclature of foreign language teaching methodology;

Goal of the academic discipline: to provide Master's Degree students with basic skills of professionally-oriented texts abstracting and text analysis, as well as the ability to transform texts. 

Objectives of the academic discipline: in order to achieve this goal, the following objectives should be fulfilled during this course:

·           familiarisation with specialised periodicals (international, national, specialised and overview newspapers and magazines);

·           familiarisation with basic methods of analytical and synthetic information processing: semantic analysis of each paragraph of the text, extraction of information units and drawing up a plan of the abstracted document, defining and formulating the main idea of the document in a compressed form;

·           familiarisation with methods of content compression (formulating the main idea of the abstracted material, without regard to the original form of expression);

·           finding appropriate lexical and grammatical equivalents in two languages during translation;

  1. Aim and objectives:

Aim: to teach students the skills of editorial activity - editing materials intended for use in the field of professional activity (business documentation, presentations, reports, etc.) in accordance with the language norms, professional standards, formats, styles, technological requirements in the source language and in the target language.

 

Objective: to achieve the aim in the course it is necessary to solve the following objectives:

 

- to give students a comprehensive understanding of the main stages of publishing process and the main provisions of the general editing methodology;

- to consider the basic techniques and methods that allow to edit the text and its individual components: logic, composition, factual material, structure, title, apparatus, language and style;

- to familiarize students with the signs of editing the manuscript and teach practical work on editing the text.
